After a rejuvenating weekend away from computers, I returned this morning to find plenty of market share news worth sharing.
First off, Apple's share of total mobile app downloads seems to have steadied in the first quarter after a couple of years of solid declines. According to a Research2Guidance survey, Apple captured 59% of app downloads in the first three months of 2011 versus 57% in 2010 and around 80% in prior years. Note that the figures represent simply total apps, not paid apps or revenues.
Second, Fortune reports the latest Nielsen figures for smart phone operating system share. Not much change in the February to April shares compared to the prior January to March rolling three month snapshot. Android held top position at 36% trailed by Apple at 26% and Blackberry with 23%. And about those Verizon iPhone predictions? Keep digging.
