The Orange View (on hiatus) Because Apple is great but it isn't perfect

Amazon’s slicker Kindle web reader avoids the Apple tax

Back in February, I noted that Amazon could use the web-based version of its Kindle reader to bypass any restrictions or tolls Apple imposed on iOS apps. Seems like Amazon today is indeed going that route with a modified version dubbed the Kindle Cloud Reader.

The new version works in a web browser on an iPad and offers the full book shopping experience that's been banned from the Kindle iOS app. The cloud reader also works in Chrome and downloads ebooks for offline reading, so it's convenient for use on a Chromebook, too. If only Google would enable some offline functionality for Google apps on the Chromebook!
