Taiwanese smart phone maker HTC is doing all right, it seems. The Android-oriented company sold 13 million devices in the third quarter, almost double sales of a year ago, and posted a profit of $625 million, up 68% from last year.
But the company may be getting hit by the iPhone 4S juggernaut this quarter. HTC forecast fourth quarter sales of 12 million to 13 million devices this quarter, which would be an increase of 31% to 42% from a year ago but a rare decrease from quarter to quarter. Analysts who follow HTC had been expecting fourth quarter sales of 14.5 million plus.
